Cuisine conflicts

    Before moving to the US, some of my friends were worried about our eating habits in this country. It's true that we hold a negative view of American food, since Macdonald is wild spread in China. But it was not our concern because I thought that we could cook Chinese food at home and keep a traditional way of eating.

   But it's more complicated than what i have planned. First, we are astonished that there was no grease extractor in the kitchen. People usually use a simple fan to evacuate vapor. But Chinese cooking makes lots of smok and smell. After cooking, it's more difficult to ventilate the odour. It produces indoor pollution. Second, we could not find enough materials to verify our daily meals. Fans of fish dishes, we are not satisfied with the fish products in the supermarket. Especially for breakfasts, the lack of choice makes us a little nostalgic. In Chine, we can eat totally different things for two weeks. Of course, we buy things in streets, in stores nearby the work place or in a rapid restraurant. Here, toast and milk can be a whole life breakfast. Third, we were disappointed with many Chinese restaurants in the city who offered no authentic dishes. Besides, the price is not reasonable and there were always too much oil or sault.

  Claire is not familiar to cold meals and doesn't like any dairy food. So I need to get up early to cook her lunch. She is the only child whose lunch needs to be warm up while the others take cold fruits, chocolate or sandwiches. She likes Pizza but we think that frozen Pizza is not as healthy as the home-made one. For her, it's time to change her eating habits, but for me and her daddy, it's too late. We can not bear of sandwiches through all the week.

  We have no sense in recipes. Even the cookers in restaurants don't have them. We just add the suitable amounts of things. It's weard to read the receipe and there are so many strang ingredients to figure out. People tell me that the easiest way is to follow a receipe, but for me, the first step blocks already: have so many differents ustentils.

  I'm easy with food and I prefer to eat plainly. But Peng makes so many comments on daily food and he views such disappointing situation as a limit in the small city. He belives that in California or in the North, food issurs would be more satisfying. It's true that differents peoples attaches differents importances to food and to meals. For me, a good meal can make me happy and if not, it's Ok. Tucson has been nominated as the only city of creative restaurants in US by the UNESCO. But we could not tell the diffrents tasts of saurces. What a pity. 

   Yes, daily eating can make one happy and energic all the day. So I try to find a way which can maintain our healthy food habits and in the meantime, provide much more favor.
